The Joy of Pictures

The Starry Earth. This site is definitely worthy of a visit.  If you haven't seen  http://www.starryearth.com/ , I highly  recommend taking a look at their globe of pictures.

The Great Ball of Fire. Once again NASA has an amazing picture of the Sun. Check it out on their website - click here.

Image of the Day from the Daily Galaxy: Neptune in Infrared The great clarity of this infrared image of Neptune was made possible by "rubber mirror" adaptive optics technology. ... Surprisingly, Neptune radiates about twice as much energy as it receives from the Sun.

lehman_medicalbookKepler's Chief Academic Officer, Lee Lehman, PhD, recently completed her book on mundane astrology called The Astrology of Sustainability

She has now also finished a book on Traditional Medical Astrology: "Presented here is a step-by-step approach to teaching the logic of this field, which traditionally was part of every natal astrologer’s work. Included are natal, horary, and electional methods, as well as an extensive history of medical astrology and its uses. Dr. Lehman offers the traditional astrological methods for this system, also emphasizing that medical astrology was always an adjunct to medicine, not a complete system by itself. "

ncgrsummer10Kepler College faculty member, Joseph Crane, did an excellent review of the Summer 2010 NCGR research manual. It was refreshing to read a review that was thoughtful, did an excellent job of noting both strengths and weaknesses, and asked some important questions for future issues.

ophiuchusThe controversy over Astronomer Parke Kunkle's comments about a 13th sign for the Zodiac continues to sweep through the internet blogs, tweets and comments. The problem is astrologers have known about Ophiuchus all along. They also know about the precession of the equinox. So it has been a non-controversy from the astrological point of view. But that hasn't prevented it from being an internet sensation among those who know little or nothing about the actual practice of astrology. If you want to know more, there are some excellent articles by Kepler faculty and board explaining the whole thing.

  • Chief Academic Officer J. Lee Lehman article The Thirteenth Sign? What to do with Ophiucus notes some of the cultural issues with why skeptics are bringing up this issue and considers the question of whether Ophiucus has any astrological significance.
  • Faculty member Bruce Scofield has an written Am I Still My Sun Sign? gives from basic background on the astrological signs vs. the astronomical constellations
  • Board Chair, Robert Hand, has written on the Invariance of the Tropical Zodiac, on why Ophiuchus cannot be a sign in the tropical or sidereal zodiacs which includes an historical overview.
  • You can also download a PDF of an entertaining article by Board member Gloria Star on The Flap About a New Zodiac.

Faculty, staff and enrolled students are welcome to visit the Friends of Astrology/Kepler Library in Chicago, Illinois to browse or check out books. To minimize costs of mailing incurred by students and the college, students residing outside of the Seattle or Chicago area are encouraged to use the resources of the public library nearest to them whenever possible.

Kepler College students may request that a member of the library staff photocopy articles or excerpts from books, especially if the information requested will help them with their studies or research. Articles will either be scanned and emailed or photocopied and mailed via US postal service, unless doing so infringes on copyright laws. There is a fee for scanning and photocopying.
