Shortly before our academic program ended in 2012, Kepler took the core of the astrological program and re-visioned it into a program where students could earn individual certificates as they explored different subject areas in depth. But we also wanted to provide a full program that covered a broader range of astrological studies. The diploma program requires 12 courses plus 2 chart calculation labs. The program is not easy and takes at least 3 years of study. Maki took on that challenge. Along the way she earned a certificate in the Fundamentals of Natal Astrology, Moving the Chart in Time and The Astrology of Relationship. She had to work twice as hard as most of our students as English is her second language. Her teachers all agree that she is well deserving of the honor of being our first Diploma Graduate!

I've been learning astrology and reading horoscopes for clients for few years before I entered into Kepler College. But the main reason that drove me to study at Kepler was because I couldn’t feel satisfied with my knowledge, skill and performance in counseling with clients. I felt conflict often about what the proper attitude and behavior I should hold as a practicing astrologer. I questioned myself often about “did I really help my clients to understand their real problem and potential, or did I just led them to have blind faith in Astrology?”,” How are western astrologers doing their work?”…etc. For these questions, I decided to study at Kepler from beginning, and now I can say my decision has been ever so correct!

Maki Shibata250pxEvery teacher at Kepler is knowledgeable, skillful and experienced. Even from basic course, I still learned a lot of new visions from their insight and wisdom. I learned how to be more effective at my consultations and how to combine different predicting techniques for different purposes. In the beginning, I did not notice my learning at Kepler had changed my performance until one of my clients sent e-mail and told me that she had introduced her family and friends to me. That was the most exciting moment! From that moment I knew I can be a real astrologer -- not a fortuneteller!

In the math course, I didn't just learn how to draw a horoscope but also learned the astronomical logic behind it. From the history course and astronomy course, I confirmed that Astrology is a great science--more than I knew.

What made me highly appreciative was that every teacher spent so much time to prepare extra supplements for serious students to explore more knowledge and gain more skill as long as they want. So if you are beginner, for sure you can learn from beginning to professional in here because every course is designed systematically. If you are an advanced astrologer as I was, you still can find a lot of new thing to learn as long as you are willing to ask.

Now, with my sincere appreciation, I am glad to say that I finally got my diploma! My next plan is to decide my specialty, continue researching, and, of course, to offer my professional skills and ability to support my clients.

At the same time, I will continue my learning at Kepler because I feel here has become another home for me to recharge my energy. I believe here is also for every astrologer who loves Astrology and loves helping people.

      Astrology can provide a great deal of insight into the basic dynamics of love and marriage. This course will cover techniques, including comparisons and composites. Psychological principles, psychological issues and ethical concerns and considerations will also be examined. The primary goal is to promote better understanding, application and usage of basic consultation and communication skills with regard to questions about relationships.

      Course Objectives:

      By the end of this course, the students will be able to:

      1. identify primary categories of human relationships.

      2. locate relationships in specific houses of a cosmological chart .

      3. identify at least two issues involved in validating cosmological information.

      4. identify personal filters or critical thinking obstacles which could interfere with clear understanding and interpretation of astrological data.

          Either W112 or W113 may be taken to complete the certificate for Moving the Chart in Time. In addition, W112 may be taken as an elective for the certificate diploma; Pre-requisite: W110 (and preferably W111) or Challenge

          In a fluid, multi-national world, many clients do not have birth times, a critical piece of information needed to accurately determine houses and the timing of events. Rectification puts your knowledge and skill with techniques that move the chart in time in order to identify the most likely birth time.

          The astrologer and client determine when rectification of the birth time is needed and what is to be accomplished by the search. For an accurate birth time, the dates of major life turning points should confirm the alignment of natal chart patterns to life events. If they do not, the client should provide information of specific life turning points and time range information from family sources.

          In this course, students learn to select appropriate modern western techniques for adjusting the birth time to bring relevant natal chart patterns into alignment with appropriate astrological indicators to coincide with the known life events. Study for part III includes:

          • Strategies for ascertaining major life turning points to confirm birth time accuracy and/or need for rectification.
          • Assisting the client in searching family background sources for a birth time or time range
          • Applying chart movement techniques to align appropriate chart patterns and astrological significators to actual life events, from a few minutes of known birth time to a twenty-four hour search.
          • Establishing a method for narrowing the birth time range: applying first, second and third tier strategies to add layers of confirmation to the rectified birth time.
          • Using various rectification search software to narrow the birth time search.
          • Dealing with various ratings of data accuracy from AA to DD (Dirty Data).

          Weekly Topics Include:

          • Problematic Issues: Assessing the Need for Birth Time Rectification
          • How to Assess the Natal Chart Dynamics to Set the Stage for Rectification
          • If the Birth Time Doesn’t Match Events, Why Does It Matter? Looking at first tier techniques.

            This course examines the development of modern Western interpretive methods of movement based upon planetary cycles, natural phenomena and symbolic interpretive tools from the 16th to the 21st centuries and assumes the student’s working knowledge of the elements of natal chart interpretation and synthesis. Areas of study for Moving the Chart in Time, Part 2 include:

            • Seeing the life “big picture” with progressed declination and chart graphics (20th C)
            • Moving the natal chart to a relocated position and applying transits, progressions and directions (20th C)
            • Synodic Cycles of planetary pairs to the natal chart and in mundane charts (used by most cultures from the 16th C to the present), including Chiron (late 20th C)
            • Planetary Returns, including solar returns (Hellenistic origin), precessed solar returns (20th C), lunar & other planetary returns - (20th C)
            • Transits, Progressions and Directions of planets and angles to natal midpoints, asteroids and Chiron (20th C)
            • Using the graphic function of software to track transits, progressions and directions of all planetary factors in a variety of harmonics

            Weekly Topics include:

            • History Review and Life Overview with a Progressed Declination Graphic. Progressed declination, reveals major life turning points at a glance, and serves as a good opener for discussion with the client at a first consultation. The progressed declination in the graphic format also provides an overview of life turning points.
            • Transits, Progressions and Directions to the Relocated Chart. When one permanently moves from the birth place, the birth time and possibly the birth date are re-set for the new location to maintain the exact same planetary positions as the natal chart, which provides additional and important information for timing and interpretation.
            • Movement of the Lunar Nodes and Major Asteroids to the Natal Chart. These are important indicators of major life lessons. Students also explore the mythological significance of the most commonly used asteroids to interpret their transits, progressions and directions to the natal chart planets, angles and sensitive points.
            • Synodic Cycles of Outer Planetary Pairs to Natal & Mundane Interpretation. The convergence of two or more hard aspect cycles of outer planets in real time not only marks mundane affairs, but also impact people whose personal planets, angles or sensitive points are activated.
            • Transits, Progressions and Directions to Natal Midpoints particularly Sun, Moon, Ascendant and Midheaven. Students will also assess the importance of midpoints shared by multiple planets.
            • Solar Returns with and without Precession, and Relocation for the Solar Return. Additional modes of interpretation can be found in Solar Returns, both precessed and relocated.
            • Moving the Solar Return. Movement of the Solar Return angles, the Progressed Moon and transiting Sun serve as timing triggers to unfold the promise of the Solar Return chart during the year.
            • The Lunar Return and Other Planetary Returns. These returns add interpretive detail for the time frame related to their orbits. Some astrologers consider returns for each of the planets to reveal development stages according to the nature of that planet and for the duration of its natural cycle.
            • Student Presentations and/or Direct and Converse Movement of the Angles to the Natal Chart; Combining and Refining Basic Chart Timing

              W110 and W111 are required for the Certificate Diploma. This is not an introductory course. Students are expected to have a working knowledge of the elements of natal chart interpretation and synthesis. 

              This Certificate examines the development of modern Western methods used to understand the cycles experienced throughout an individual’s life. The objective is for students to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the various techniques used by astrologers to understand cycles and change. Students will see how different techniques apply to questions related to psychological development, and the timing of critical events both in the past and as potential predictions for the future. As it is increasingly common for astrologers to have clients without settled birth times, students will also learn strategies and considerations for applying these techniques to chart rectification. The basic approach will include:

              • A study of the theory, history and adherents of various modern western techniques for moving the natal chart in time
              • A study of modern techniques for moving the natal chart to assess and interpret current patterns for assessing the phase, the year, the month, the week and day
              • A comparison of strengths and weaknesses of various techniques of moving the chart in time
              • The process of current pattern chart synthesis and interpretation
              • Understanding the appropriate movement tools for the interpretive scope

              In addition to weekly homework of concepts applied to study charts of public personages, students meet weekly in Live Chat sessions through the GoToMeeting classroom with teacher and/or student presentations on these topics.

              Areas of study for “moving the chart in time” Part I include:

              • Moving the chart with transits, secondary tertiary and minor progressions and solar arc directions

              • Interpreting Solar and Lunar Eclipses

              • The lunation cycle in life stages and variations of the Progressed Moon in interpretation

              • An overview of the history of chart movement techniques in modern western astrology

              Weekly topics include

              • A historical review of modern western astrological methods of chart movement to interpret current patterns relevant to the natal chart from the 16th century to the present.
              • Natural planetary cycles of outer planets as general markers of life stages.
              • Timing Life Events with Outer Planet Transits to the Natal Chart: Study includes: outer planet transits, Jupiter through Pluto to assess the importance of important life events through “stacking-up” or activation of several chart points in a short period of time.
              • Assessing the Year with Solar Arc Directions. Solar Arc Directions, have one advantage over all other methods of moving the chart because it is very easy to spot the approximate timing of activation for important years. Study includes the strengths and weakness of the system.
              • Assessing the Year with Secondary Progressions. Study includes how to apply secondary progressed technique to forecast the unfolding of any year, past present or future, and the strengths and weakness of the system
              • Assessing the Half-year with Solar and Lunar Eclipses. Study includes: the astronomical dynamics of eclipses, the effects of a Solar Eclipse or Lunar Eclipse as it activates natal planets, personal points and houses.
              • Assessing the Year with Transit, Progressed and Directed Lunar Nodes. To understand the current chart patterns more deeply, we must investigate the transits, progressions and directions of and to the Lunar Nodes.
              • Timing Months with the Progressed Moon and the Progressed Moon Phase: including the Progressed New and Full Moons. The progressed Moon serves as a trigger to activate the longer-term (slower) secondary progressions.
              • Timing Months and Weeks with Tertiary and Minor Progressions. These faster timing methods enable the astrologer to interpret particular months and weeks of special interest during the year.
              • Timing a Specific Event within Days with Inner Planet Transits.
              • Selecting the Appropriate Timing Method for the Task. Clients come to an astrologer with questions, only some of which involve current timing. How do you choose what interpretive techniques will best serve the client's needs?

                The primary focus in this course is the practical application of what the student has learned. A good astrologer must also reflect upon their own world view, assumptions and other personal filters. Students will be challenged to explore their own personal filters, attitudes and beliefs as they develop their chart interpretation skills. They will also actively consider and discuss potential client issues and ethical considerations. In addition, students get guidance in how to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to delineation by examining how multiple astrologers approach chart interpretation.

                Topics include:

                • Developing critical thinking skills through examining conflicting views and asking questions about subjects such as house systems, the use of dignities, the use of the nodes, whether there are good and bad planets, or good and bad houses, etc.
                • An exploration of what makes a good or bad astrologer
                • Practice with and evaluation of multiple approaches to delineation
                • Learning how to identify your own filters in yourself and in the natal chart
                • Additional techniques to fine tune the chart

This course covers:

                  • a comparison of methods in the development of modern astrological traditions;
                  • a critique of several areas of astrological study including, systems of planetary interpretation;
                  • a comparison of older and newer interpretive systems in current use; and
                  • the process of natal chart synthesis and interpretation

                    The objective for this course is that, by the end, students will have learned the basics of astrological symbolism and be on their way to successfully synthesizing that knowledge to interpret a chart, even if there is no birth time. To accomplish this goal, the following areas will be covered:

                    • Introduction to the astronomical underpinnings of the astrological chart
                    • Working with Elements, Modes and Polarities to create an interpretation
                    • Examining the construction of meaning within the astrological signs
                    • Getting a start on chart interpretation through the quadrants and Chart Patterns
                    • Looking at the interplay between astronomy and the astrological meanings of the planets; comparing meanings from Hellenistic to modern; introduction to the mythology of the planets
                    • Introduction to the astrological houses and how they are created; the meanings of the Houses and their changes over time; how to use the houses to enhance an interpretation; working with a second house system
                    • The harmonies of the chart - working with the Major Aspects and Aspect Configurations
                    • Introduction to Dignities and Debilities to help hone chart interpretation
                    • Introduction to the sensitive points: the Lunar nodes and the Part of Fortune

                    By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the core meanings for the planets and be introduced to additional sensitive points such as dwarf planets, nodes and Arabic parts. Through an introduction to essential dignities and dispositor trees, student will learn to evaluate what planets are highlighted in the chart. Because the meaning of the signs was stripped to its core, students will be able to see how and where astrologers have inserted additional concepts. This enables students to evaluate whether or not they agree with these additions. Students will also learn how the major aspects are tied to the sign organization as well as mathematical divisions of the 360 degree circle.

                    Students will also have an understanding of the basic structure of the house as divided into hemispheres and quadrants. They will begin to understand the logic between house systems and how interpretation changes when using different systems because they have worked with and interpreted natal charts using two different systems.
