This course examines the development of modern Western interpretive methods of movement based upon planetary cycles, natural phenomena and symbolic interpretive tools from the 16th to the 21st centuries and assumes the student’s working knowledge of the elements of natal chart interpretation and synthesis. W110 and W111 are required for the Certificate Diploma. This is not an introductory course. Students are expected to have a working knowledge of the elements of natal chart interpretation and synthesis. 

This Certificate examines the development of modern Western methods used to understand the cycles experienced throughout an individual’s life. The objective is for students to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the various techniques used by astrologers to understand cycles and change. Students will see how different techniques apply to questions related to psychological development, and the timing of critical events both in the past and as potential predictions for the future. As it is increasingly common for astrologers to have clients without settled birth times, students will also learn strategies and considerations for applying these techniques to chart rectification. The primary focus in this course is the practical application of what the student has learned. A good astrologer must also reflect upon their own world view, assumptions and other personal filters. Students will be challenged to explore their own personal filters, attitudes and beliefs as they develop their chart interpretation skills. They will also actively consider and discuss potential client issues and ethical considerations. In addition, students get guidance in how to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to delineation by examining how multiple astrologers approach chart interpretation.

Topics include:

  • Developing critical thinking skills through examining conflicting views and asking questions about subjects such as house systems, the use of dignities, the use of the nodes, whether there are good and bad planets, or good and bad houses, etc.
  • An exploration of what makes a good or bad astrologer
  • Practice with and evaluation of multiple approaches to delineation
  • Learning how to identify your own filters in yourself and in the natal chart
  • Additional techniques to fine tune the chart
  • Learning to integrate dispositors, Part of Spirit and additional Arabic Lots, the lunation cycle, time lords, decans, fixed stars, retrogrades, planetary speed, derivative houses and more into chart interpretation
  • Introduction to transits

The course introduces students to the basics of cosmological symbolism and applications developed in Western cultures and in current use. Beyond planets, houses, signs and aspects, 102 introduces students to natal patterns and chart points that clarify natal interpretation, such as: configurations, essential dignities, sensitive points, house systems, harmonics, asteroids, declinations, Moon phases and the natural cycles of outer planets. This course covers:
